This letter is about the private school that our children attend. Jo and I have come to understand that children are all very different and dynamic. That being said, they all learn best in different ways. We are open to public school, private school, charter schools, homeschool, or a little bit of each (Jo actually did most of these options in his own education process). We take our children's education seriously and we consider the options each year as we look ahead. At times, the decision has felt hard, but this past year was so amazing. The community that we have gained through Faith Christian is something I talk about in my adoption biography, because they have quickly become a network of support for us. They are encouraging us as we raise our sons and they are very supportive in our adoption. I hope this letter gives you a small glimpse of what the year has been like.
Around this time last year, my husband and I found ourselves looking at different schools for our children. We looked at public and private schools in and around Gloucester. Through our own observations and with the help of some teachers and professionals, we were aware that large class sizes were going to be detrimental to one of our children. We became discouraged, as nothing seemed to fit our needs, budget, and educational standards.
We visited Faith Christian School and immediately let out a sigh of relief. Our children visited and felt at ease as soon as they entered the doors. The individualized education plans, qualified and loving teachers, and welcomed parent involvement were very evident. Our children loved it immediately, and their learning and excitement grew as the year progressed.
Recently, I had a concern and asked the principle and my son’s teacher if I could chat with them after school. They sat with me for over an hour. I left knowing that their care is exceptional. They also recently had an in-school field trip for the older grades; the Cape Ann Symphony came to do a demonstration. My son was too young for the field trip but the principle brought him along anyway, just because he loves all-things music. I also often find notes of encouragement or praise for an accomplishment in their backpacks. The education they are receiving is personalized and they are deeply cared for while at school.
I share these thoughts so that if you are where I was last year, you don’t miss the opportunity to explore this hidden gem of Gloucester. It may be exactly what your family needs. Faith Christian School is a wonderful school with incredible standards and welcoming families, and I’m so grateful for what it offers the children of Cape Ann.
